ABOUT

We hope that you enjoy your coffees, teas, chocolate and spices.

Cocoa Cinnamon means a lot of things to us. Here are some of the ideas
that we have in mind — drawing from our varied heritages, most directly
Mexican and Italian. The name comes from ingredients that have played
major roles in the rise and fall of civilizations, ingredients we love and
whose histories are easy to forget.

The quest for spices initiated a romantic yet harried affair, for which the
world has been transformed. Languages, religions and cultures have been
spread and obliterated. And a new, smaller and more fragmented world is
still emerging. We source organic spices from all over the Earth; we use
many of the spices we sell in the chocolates that we make. The names
Magellan’s Clouds, Kublai Kahn, The Silk Road, Santa Sangre, the
Quest for Gold, Finding the Moluccas, Breath of Montezuma, the Spice Islands
and the House of Wisdom refer to this. We have read about these people,
places and events and they fill us.

The chocolates are as varied as the names they carry and the spices that are
used in their making. Be ready to savor and experience a new world with
each piece. And let each one start you on a journey, Epicurean and
historical. Let the experience and natural high you can get savoring these
chocolates and spices intrigue you to look up their origins and histories,
read a book, uncover a layer of truth heretofore unknown. Cinnamon,
cacao, achiote, chiles, cloves all hold secrets and tales that amaze. We dare
you ask and seek: Where do cloves originally come from? How did cacao
play a role in the history of the world?

Cocoa Cinnamon is our way of experiencing these amazing tastes and
stories over and again. It is also a way of making small decisions that undo
longstanding patterns. We believe that through commerce people can
make the world a better place to live. We mean this in a direct way.
Wherever possible we source all of the ingredients that go into what we
make as locally and sustainably as we can. This is an ongoing process and
we aim to get better as we grow.

Thank you for taking part and enjoy.
